Building a Smart Bathroom

Today, homes are being designed to include more and more technology. We’re all adding features such as security cameras, wireless whole house sound systems, wireless controlled thermostats, sophisticated LED lighting systems and more.

But most bathrooms remain the same – a typical tub/shower, sink and toilet. It doesn’t have to be that way! Let’s take a closer look at some technological features to include if you are thinking of building a smart bathroom.

Toilet

The Numi toilet by Kohler is the ultimate in toilet technology. It has a motion-activated cover and seat, heated seat, deodorizer, foot warmer, music, touch-screen remote and much more.

Bathtub

A bathroom can be much more than a standard soaking or jetted tub. You can have all the features of an outdoor hot tub right in your bathroom. There are even tubs that have computer-controlled jets, lights, music and built-in refrigerators!

Shower

Kohler also makes a digital shower control system. Select your exact temperature, choose the jets you want to use and save your individual preferences. You can also select a system that integrates lighting, music and steam.

Connect it All

If you opt for several smart Kohler fixtures, you will soon be able to add the Kohler Konnect system. With the Kohler Konnect system, your shower, tub and toilet are connected and can be voice controlled.

Just imagine walking into the bathroom and saying, “Start my morning shower,” to activated all of your favorite preferences. While Kohler Konnect is not available yet, the company says it is coming shortly.

Add-ons

Not tackling a whole bathroom renovation? No problem! There are plenty of ways to add smart home features to your existing bathroom.

  • Buy a smarter scale: these scales can be used to track your weight, BMI and body fat percentage. Some models can sync with your wearable fitness tracker or your smartphone.
  • Add toilet light: These are perfect for those middle of the night bathroom trips.
  • Install a shower head with an integrated speaker: One of our favorites is the Kohler Moxie. The rechargeable, magnetic speaker can be removed from the shower for use in other areas of your house.
  • Use an automatic soap dispenser at your sink: This is a small, inexpensive addition that is both stylish and functional. Plus, you’ll reduce the spread of germs.
